NFL Playoffs Boost Rookie Card Values of Top Quarterbacks

As the NFL playoffs heat up, the final four quarterbacks have not only been making waves on the field but also in the world of sports memorabilia. The rare rookie cards of these top quarterbacks have seen a surge in online auctions, attracting high bids and garnering attention from collectors. Among these elite QBs are Patrick Mahomes II from Kansas City, Brock Purdy from San Francisco, Lamar Jackson from Baltimore, and Jared Goff from Detroit.

The highly anticipated AFC Championship game showcased a thrilling showdown between two of the league’s brightest stars, Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. Mahomes, a two-time Super Bowl champion, has firmly established himself as a high-end hobby hero. His rookie cards have been highly sought after, with a highlight being a 2017 autographed Panini National Treasures Black card that sold for an impressive $19,300 on 62 bids. Another notable Mahomes item was a 2017 signed Panini Contenders Rookie Ticket card graded BGS 9.5, which fetched $16,577 from 51 bids.

Meanwhile, in the NFC championship, fans witnessed a battle between Brock Purdy and Jared Goff, both emerging as promising quarterbacks in the league. Purdy’s rookie cards have seen a spike in value, with his 2022 Playoff Contenders signed Rookie Ticket “Cracked Ice” variation, graded PSA 10 and limited to only 22 copies, selling for $10,268 on 27 bids. This follows the trend of Purdy’s rookie cards consistently selling for over $10,000, such as a 2022 National Treasures signed patch card graded PSA 9, which garnered an impressive $15,000 on 53 bids.

Lamar Jackson’s rookie cards have also experienced significant activity in the auction market. A Gem-Mint 2018 Panini Prizm Black Finite card featuring the dynamic quarterback fetched an astonishing $51,100 on 76 bids, highlighting the demand for his collectibles. Another sought-after item was a 2018 National Treasures autographed patch card numbered #27/99 and graded BGS 9.5, which sold for $18,000 on 39 bids.

While Jared Goff’s journey has been a mixed bag so far, his move to the Detroit Lions has sparked more interest in his rookie cards. A 2019 Panini Absolute Kaboom! card, a gold variation numbered #6/10, went for $3,049 on 50 bids, demonstrating growing interest in Goff’s collectibles. Additionally, a 2016 Donruss Optic Gold Prizm rookie card, graded BGS 10 and numbered #2/10, sold for $2,950 on 32 bids, further solidifying Goff’s presence in the market.

These rising auction values of rookie cards come as no surprise, considering the impact these quarterbacks are making on the field. As the NFL playoffs continue, the excitement and demand for these quarterback’s rookie cards are expected to grow along with their accomplishments in the league.
